mobileFOUNDATIONS' IncidentPortal Plays Key Role in Defending
the Pentagon |
|
For the past several years, the
Pentagon has held an annual exercise to test
its ability to respond to chemical and
biological terrorist attacks.
Traditionally, one of the greatest challenges
facing a large multi-jurisdictional
response is the inability to effectively
communicate. That is why the Pentagon's
Defense Protective Services (DPS) chose to use
mobileFOUNDATIONS'
IncidentPortal®
to perform all of the alerting and
notifications for this year's exercise, dubbed
Misty Court. Because of the
Tragedies of 9-11, this years' exercise
took on even more significance.
mobileFOUNDATIONS'
staff supported the exercise from an on-site command center.
IncidentPortal worked flawlessly in the exercise. It
was able to send out hundreds of notifications to diverse
devices (RIM pages, SkyTel pages, automated text-to-speech to
cell phones, and wireless PDAs) in mere seconds. The
users simply had to select a scenario from a Web form and
IncidentPortal
automatically:
 | Whom to notify (e.g.,
DPS, Police, fire, FBI) |
 | How to notify them
(e.g., pager, cell phone) |
 | Formatted the message
to the needs of the individual (e.g., a fireman with a RIM
device only receives the data he/she needs to perform
his/her job) and his/her device (e.g., pushed text alerts
detailing the type of explosion). |

About 300
people took part in a mock chemical attack in
the Pentagon’s center courtyard Wednesday, to
test the capacity of multiple local, state and
federal organizations to respond. In the
exercise DPS personnel were in the Pentagon
courtyard, assisting victims of the blast and
testing the environment for chemical or
biological agents.
